City of Hope’s National Professional Salon Industry Spirit of Life Award Gala had more than 850 salon industry executives and supporters in attendance on July 12, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay, in Las Vegas to honor Harlan Kirschner, President of The Kirschner Group, Inc. City of Hope is a leading research, treatment and education center for cancer, diabetes and life-threatening diseases.
“Celebrating Cures”, the theme for this year’s event, celebrated the hope of a cure for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The evening was a celebration with a joint cocktail reception with the Professional Beauty Association, unique silent auction, MINI Cooper giveaway and a special performance by Grammy winner Michael Bolton. To date, the “Celebrating Cures” campaign has raised more than $850,000 for City of Hope.
Photos coming soon!

“Celebrating Cures” was demonstrated by the event’s special guest speaker, Chris Crellin, Kirschner’s son-in-law. Crellin shared his very personal experience with cancer, having lost his father to cancer when he was a small child and then battling for his own life at 15, when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Crellin moved the audience, announcing that he was 15 years cancer free and recently celebrated the birth of his first born son (and Kirschner’s first grandchild).
Toward the end of the evening, the winner of the 2014 MINI Cooper, donated by Eddie Jhin and Jinny Corp., was drawn by Nia Sanchez, recently named Miss U.S.A. Screams were heard throughout the ballroom when Teresa Lane of HairUWear was announced the winner. Teresa, a two-time cancer survivor, was overjoyed at the prospect of taking home her new car.  Michael Bolton concluded the night with a medley of his greatest hits.
The remodel of the Positive Image Center at City of Hope was unveiled at the event. The Positive Image Center is a unique space on campus that focuses on the emotional and physical well-being of patients struggling with the appearance-related side effects of surgery and cancer treatment. Belvedere has donated its time and product to redesign the Positive Image Center into a thing of beauty.
The City of Hope’s 2015 Spirit of Life Award honoree Steve Goddard, President of Pravana, was announced at the gala.
