Vice President, Finance
As City of Hope's new vice president of finance, William M. Gorenstein, C.P.A., oversees the day-to-day supply chain and revenue cycle operations of the institution.
Gorenstein joined City of Hope from the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) where he worked for the past 14 years in increasing roles of financial responsibility from director of medical center financial operations to associate vice president finance-corporate controller. UPHS is comprised of three acute care teaching hospitals, a clinical practice plan with over 1,200 members of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine faculty and a 160-member primary care physician practice plan. Gorenstein was responsible for UPHS accounting and financial reporting, financial systems, accounts payable, payroll, and debt and treasury management operations. Among other accomplishments, he developed the financial model that supports UPHS’ long-range strategic plan, created a centralized treasury, led the restructuring of $700 million of UPHS debt — yielding substantial cash savings — and implemented financial and planning systems to offer a more user-friendly philosophy. Prior to joining UPHS, Gorenstein was assistant comptroller for the University of Pennsylvania and audit supervisor for the accounting firm Coopers and Lybrand.
A member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Gorenstein received a bachelor’s degree in business administration, graduating magna cum laude from Temple University in Pennsylvania.
