Senior Vice President of Financial Operations

Wael Fakhry is senior vice president of financial operations at City of HopeWael Fakhry is senior vice president of financial operations at City of Hope, providing overall direction for the organization’s financial operations.

Wael has more than 20 years of experience as a health-care finance executive for hospitals and large medical groups. He joined City of Hope in 2012 from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, where he served as finance director and chief financial officer and administered all functions of the Finance Department, including financial operations, payroll, budgeting, cash management, financial analysis and reporting. His responsibilities also included procurement and business services.

Previously, he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer at Indian River Medical Center in Florida, where he led the medical center’s five-year strategic plan for financial performance. His contributions helped lead to the health system’s financial and operating turnaround.

Wael also served as corporate vice president and chief financial officer of Beth Israel Medical
Center in New York. He was responsible for all financial matters pertaining to the medical center
and helped lead development of the organization’s short- and long-term business strategies,
including the establishment of financial goals, capital structure and growth activities.
  
Wael also has held leadership positions at New York University Medical Center, Cabrini Medical Center System, Lutheran Health System and New York University Downtown Hospital, all in New York.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and is enrolled in a Master of Business Administration Program from the University of Cumbria in the United Kingdom.
